- Climate Chaos: (Bible Reference - John 8:22-25)
Today more and more people lack hope for the future of the human species, and the planet as a whole - Cousteau is not the only one. We have all heard the depressing statistics on global warming, deforestation, waste mountains, species extinction and so on.

Living in Hope: (Bible Reference - Daniel 12:5-end)
John Lennon's song implies that it would be a good thing if people could stop looking for heaven. That heaven is a sort of distraction from getting on with addressing the real issues of today. Daniel wouldn’t have agreed. Daniel was imagining heaven all the time. Daniel’s visions are full of angels, heavenly battles and strange creatures. We find them quite difficult to read today.

The Writing's On the Wall: (Bible Reference - Daniel 5:1-12)
Often what we get is not what we would have chosen. We get educated, choose a career, a partner and earn money with the idea that we will choose the way our lives go – but often it doesn’t turn out like that. The job is not as good as it seemed at first, the people we love have faults and flaws which can seem impossible to live with – and sometimes disaster happens.
-
True Power: (Bible Reference - Daniel 4:1-8)
Conversion can be a long and messy business. It was for Nebuchadnezzar. In Daniel chapter 2, we saw how Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar’s dream – and how Nebuchadnezzar declared Daniel’s God to be above all other Gods. By Daniel Chapter 3 he seems to have forgotten this and orders everyone to bow down to a gold statue.
-
Faith in the Future: (Bible Reference - Daniel 3)
There are plenty of authorities in our lives which tell us what they think we ought to do or think. Most of the while we are quite comfortable with what is expected of us – but sometimes we feel it puts our faith under real pressure.
-
Feet of Clay: (Bible Reference - Daniel 2)
From time to time I get brochures offering me all kinds of professional training at exorbitant prices. The one that always fascinates me is the one entitled “Dealing with difficult people”. Most of these courses focus on techniques of communication and seek to answer the question, “How can I get what I want out of this situation or person?” Few actually go any deeper than techniques.
-
Rebels with Good Causes: (Bible Reference - Daniel 1)
Daniel wanted to live the life of a good Jew in Jerusalem with his family. But as a young man, the Babylonian army took Jerusalem and carried him off into exile. If you’ve been watching the pictures of New Orleans on the Tv this week you will get an idea of what this was like. Everything seemed lost. All hope was gone. Thousands of their neighbours were lying dead in the streets.
